special needs

People with loss of mobility or people with spine injuries, arthritis, RSI have found specialist equipment ranging from ergonomic keyboards, seating with adjustable spine and lumbar support, dynamically height-adjustable desks, right through to integration of our PC systems into wheel-chair mounted communicator modules of great value to them in completing their studies.

Our PC systems travel a lot and can be found all over Britain and Europe - we supply students all over the country, some of which come from mainland Europe or beyond. When these students return to their home countries at the end of their course, our computer systems travel with them.

Try out our on-line quotation facility for a range of PC and Mac computer systems, special needs software packages and peripherals.

What happens if a student qualifies for DSA-funded IT equipment?
The student's IT needs will be assessed by a needs assessor at an Access Centres, as recommended by the student's funding council. Upon the needs assessor's request we provide a quote within 24 hours. This quote for the equipment recommended by the needs assessor is sent off to the funding council together with a report by the needs assessor. The funding council typically then after some time contacts the student in writing advising the student to place an order for the equipment with us. Most students do this by phone. Within 1 day we will arrange a mutually convenient delivery date, within 10 days of this initial contact, which we will confirm in writing on the same day. Provided the student has sent us a copy of the funding council's letter authorising the student to place the order with us, and as requested by us during the inital contact, we will deliver the IT equipment on the agreed date. We will endeavour to be at the student's preferred delivery address within 2 hours of the agreed delivery appointment (factors such as traffic permitting). During the delivery appointment the equipment will be unpacked, installed and demonstrated as fully working, as part of a brief system familiarisation session. This will last no more than 1.5 hours, typically 1 hour.
Where training is involved, sessions will be arranged separately of delivery.
